The Denton County Master Gardeners will celebrate the organization’s 20th anniversary with the Annual Spring Garden Tour and Plant Sale from 9 am until 4 pm on Saturday, May 9th.
The perfect family event for Mother’s Day weekend, the Spring Garden Tour includes seven beautiful residential gardens located in Flower Mound and South Denton. Each garden addresses a typical backyard situation for North Texas homeowners. These include a garden that thrives in a strong, western exposure; a low-maintenance yard designed for a family on the go; a stunning landscape on a steeply sloped lot that features year-round blooms, and a two-acre, certified wildlife habitat. Garden guests are invited to bring their cameras to record gardening ideas or snap a family photo.
As an added bonus, each garden will include a “Diggin Deeper” outdoor demonstration covering topics specific to that particular yard. These range from organic gardening tips and square-foot gardening to perennials for shade and worm composting, and will be conducted by veteran Master Gardeners, giving visitors an opportunity to “Learn from the Masters” and ask probing questions.
In addition, the Master Gardeners have selected their favorite plants for the Denton area, which will be offered at the annual plant sale on the same day. Commercially grown annuals, perennials, herbs for sun and shade, hanging baskets and one-of-a-kind gifts will be available at special prices. The public will have the opportunity to acquire pass-along plants from the Master Gardeners’ own yards, many of which are not available in local stores. The sale will be held from 8 am until 2 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church at the corner of Hobson and Teasley Lane.
