Sexy Meets Chic

Sexy Meets Chic

From blouses to dresses, sexy sheer fabrics reign in 2009 and are back as one of this season’s newest fashions. From runway to runway, designers everywhere are taking the sheer look to a whole new level.

Focusing on delicate fabrics, trendy colors, and soft silhouettes, this summer’s translucent pieces are a great way to beat the heat. These celestial fashions come in a variety of fabrics. From solid colors, to floral prints, to ethnic patterns, you’re bound to find something to spice up your wardrobe. And if fear of color is something that keeps you from participating in the latest trend, don’t worry. With colors ranging from white to black there is sure to be a color out there for you. However, one thing is a must when venturing into this season’s trend: Good taste and modesty are always fashion “do’s,” so keep the look modest and delicate by layering these gossamer garments over other pieces, such as colored cami’s or nude slips.

If the sheer look is not for you, go for a chic, one-shoulder garment. Thanks to First Lady Michelle Obama, one-shoulder garments have stepped into the limelight, and they can be found on tops, cocktail dresses, and even bathing suits. Show a bit of skin with a one-shoulder top and create a delicate, mysterious mood that you can’t get in an everyday blouse. Or try a Grecian style dress, and experience the femininity that comes from the softly draped fabric that will make you feel like a goddess no matter what the occasion.

Whether you prefer a little see-through number or a flowing Grecian dress, one thing is for sure: This season’s focus is on feminine fabrics and delicate details that will leave you looking ethereal and beautiful, like a summer goddess.

The Perfect Storm

The Perfect Storm

Several years ago there was a movie out called The Perfect Storm. It was about some fisherman caught at sea during an extratropical nor’easter which ultimately evolved into an unusual hurricane off the Atlantic coast. As several different weather patterns collided, the storm it caused created waves up to 100 feet high. From a meteorologist’s perspective (not a fisherman’s perspective), it was “the perfect storm.”

Have you ever found yourself in the midst of a perfect storm? Have you ever seen issues from all directions collide at once…with you in the middle?!

I read an article by another pastor recently who believed our nation is in a perfect storm. Just like in the movie, where all the varying weather conditions led to a convergence of one great maelstrom, so it is spiritually in our nation.

What issues are converging to create the perfect storm in America?
• Religion – our nation is becoming increasingly secularized, but not without a struggle (often referred to as the “cultural war”).
• Politics – are more polarized than ever.
• War – this is a dangerous world.
• Economics – no need for explanation here…
• Geophysical issues – our planet is revolting against our stewardship of it.

We could debate for hours whether it is God who caused this storm or if it has been caused by our greed and allowed by God. But ultimately we get to the point that the storm is here (or at least is quickly approaching).

So what do we need to know to survive this perfect storm that is advancing on our nation? Let me suggest three important things:

1. God always shows Himself powerful in the midst of adversity and difficulty. Whether we’re talking about his saving the nation of Israel through the Red Sea or raising his own Son from the grave, God always comes through in a pinch.

2. Since storms neither affect nor scare God, storms are HIS opportunity to show Himself powerful.

3. Since both of these are true, storms are OUR opportunity to trust Him and let Him move in our lives.

If our nation is in the perfect storm, there are things we can do to batten down the hatches. There are political, economic, and ecological responses. But ultimately, we must turn to the Lord for help. This is what God says:
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14, NIV)

If, like me, you see the storm coming, get in a local, life-giving church near you. I’ll see you there…hopefully before the rain starts!

New Life Church services are Sundays at 8:30 am (Robson Ranch campus) and 10:00 am (Denton campus), www.newlifedenton.org

Create Your Ideal Life

Create Your Ideal Life

I love the power of choice, as that is what makes us human. We always have a choice and our lives are a series of choices. The choices we make today have an impact on the life we live tomorrow. We can either make choices that are life enhancing or choices that are life depleting. Every choice has it own consequences, no matter how small we think they are.

We may not like the choices we have, but in fact we have choices. Even if we choose to do nothing and not make a choice, that in fact is a choice. You might think you do not have a choice because you need your job to pay the bills and that may be true. However, you can make a choice to get a different job or you can choose to change your attitude about the job you have.

We can choose to be happy or sad, to workout or not, to lose weight or not, and to be healthy or not; there is always a choice. Our lives are the sum total of all of our choices. Understanding we can create our ideal lives is a key awareness and is very empowering.

Start replacing “I have to” with “I choose to.” The spoken word has such a tremendous impact on our lives and words can transform. We are responsible for our lives. When we say “I have to,” it suggests we have no control or say in our own lives. On the reverse, when we use “I choose,” it takes us from being the victim to being an empowered individual. For example, saying, “I choose to workout” instead of “I have to workout,” puts you in charge.

Choose to take responsibility for your life and create the life you desire.

Nail Tips

Nail Tips

Sanitation risk factors and nail drill damage has created the need for stronger compliance with state laws that makes customer safety at the top of the priority list.

There is misconception that Acrylic Nail enhancements ruin your natural nails forever, and that is very seldom the case. There are some circumstances when permanent damage is done by use of MMA products, improper use of nail drills and improper acrylic application.

Know how to be safe.

  • If you see a nail tech use implements from one customer to another without sanitizing, disinfecting or sterilizing them, walk out! This is cross contamination and can spread a wide verity of infections, fungus and diseases.
  • The nail tech must sanitize his/her hands before they start working on you.
  • Ask what type of product is used for nail applications. Some good examples are (Creative Nail Design, OPI, Backscratchers and, Star Nails,) Quality professional nail products will not be cheap. A set of Acrylic/Gel nails normally cost between $35.00 to $70.00
  • Make sure the acrylic is NOT made from MMA (methyl methacrylate); this product permanently damages the natural nail bed as well as being harmful to your health. This product is illegal to use in Texas.
  • Make sure the nail tech is licensed (licenses should be posted for all to see).
  • If a drill is used, proper bit sizes should also be used to eliminate the risk of causing the Ring of Fire,
which creates a red curved line on your
nail bed. If drilled too deep it can cause
    permanent damage. Hand filing typically
causes less damage to the nail bed.
