It’s Saturday night. You’ve worked hard all week, and you’re ready to hit the town in search of Mr. or Ms. Right (or Right-Now). As you rush out the door with your new outfit and hair in place, do you head to Dallas? No, re-think…there’s plenty of places to meet other singles right here in Denton. Let’s go through the list of places to bump into your next flame, and pay attention class, there may be a test.

We’ve all tried the bar scene. And well, that’s just it, it’s a scene. Sure it’s good for a few laughs and some watered-down drinks, but is it where you want to meet someone to have a serious conversation with? I think not kids. My first stop on the single scene is the book stores. Yes, that’s right, there is more to reading inside, and Denton has some top notch places for mingling. For you literary lovers, hang out near the novels, and all the books you should have read in college. Converse with the girl next to you about her interpretation of a Hemingway novel. For you Sci-Fi fiends, there’s always someone there ready to discuss the connection of H.G. Wells and writers of today. And for the self-help buffs…well, let’s just say that might not be the most positive place to meet someone new.

Next up, the dog park. I know the weather right now is not the best for outdoor activities, so this one is a point to keep in mind when spring arrives. Denton’s new dog park on Ryan Road is one of the most popular pick-up places I have seen lately, and I’m not talking about the plastic baggies you follow your pooch with. First off, you have an easy introduction, typically the pets do that part for you. Although animals are a little more intrusive, this gives time for the humans to chat. And, you know that you will be meeting another like-minded animal friendly person, unless they borrowed their neighbor’s dog for the day after reading my column.

Either way, it’s worth a shot.
