I’m considering buying a new air conditioning system. I’ve heard that the federal government and the City of Denton offer different rebates. How can I make sure I’m getting all the rebates for my new system?
One of the greatest incentives for getting a new, more energy efficient AC system is the energy savings you’ll see each month. On top of that, Denton Municipal Electric and the federal government both offer rebates on select systems. Here’s the breakdown:
Denton Municipal Electric: $600 for air conditioners with a SEER rating of 16.0+. The rebate is applied as a credit to your utility bill. See www.dmepower.com for details and to apply.
Federal Government: 30% of the cost of the system up to $1,5000 for qualifying systems. The rebate is offered in the form of a tax credit. Go to www.energystar.gov for more details and to apply.
These programs both have their own requirements, so read carefully before making your purchase. And since they also offer rebates on a number of energy-saving upgrades other than air conditioning units, it’s a good time to assess other potential energy saving upgrades for your home.
