2012 Thin Line Film Festival

February 15th – 20th
The Fifth Annual Thin Line Film Fest is an international documentary film festival and this year’s theme is “Making An Impact.” Do you enjoy a good movie? Then you are qualified to come join the party! Thin Line screens at the historic Campus Theatre on the downtown square. Other events are held at unique venues within one or two blocks.
Attend the festival and watch the newest, most interesting and exciting films before anyone else in Texas. Then meet, socialize and enjoy a unique opportunity to have filmmakers in attendance answer your questions following the screenings.
The mission of the Festival is to educate and entertain our audiences by presenting a diverse program of high quality, relevant documentary films. From hundreds of submissions we will select the most creative and the most compelling.

Reindeer Romp

A fun 4.2 mile run and 2.5 mile walk through lovely Denton neighborhoods decorated for the holidays. 6:30 pm check-in; 7:30 pm race begins. Register by December 1st: $15/individual or $12/person for families of three or more living at the same address; register on race day: $20/person. The entry fee includes a T-shirt, snacks, and beverages.  Activities will include a giant bounce house, face painting, and crafts. Christmas On The Square

The official beginning of the Christmas season in Pilot Point! Enjoy Christmas Spirit while we sing songs, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, get a jump on Christmas shopping or simply share the occasion with friends and neighbors.  Christmas Parade will form at 5:00 pm in the St. Thomas Aquinas parking lot.  Everyone is invited to participate, whether you have a classic car, an old pick-up or a tractor pulling a trailer full of kids, we want you in the parade.  Participants are encouraged to decorate and light their vehicles, and fill them with friends and neighbors.  Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be the Grand Marshals, straight from the North Pole for their first appearance of the season.

8th Annual Angel’s Kiss Gala

The Gala to benefit the Vascular Birthmarks Foundation will be held at The Speedway Club at the Texas Motor Speedway. The event, which will take place from 6:00 pm to 11:30 pm, will include cocktails, dinner, silent and live auctions, Texas Hold’em Poker, and dancing to the Downtown Fever band.

Chocolate for the Soul

Saturday, October 1st

Krum First United Methodist Church has set its third annual chocolate festival, Chocolate for the Soul, for 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. The festival offers homemade and artisan crafted chocolate treats, and the proceeds are used towards apportionments. Special Touch Ministries, which runs a food program for the Krum area, is a major recipient this year. A drawing for a chocolate-themed quilt sewn by church members has been added this year and some of North Texas’ finest purveyors of chocolate products will have additional items for sale.

A minimum of 20 varieties of chocolate treats will be offered said festival chair Kim Brown.  Each ticketholder may choose 12 items, and Brown advises festival goers to bring a small ice chest to take home part of their choices.

Tickets are $16 for advance purchase by September 24th, or $20 at the door. Aubrey Peanut Festival

Saturday, October 1st

Aubrey Peanut Festival dates to 1986, when residents began celebrating the harvest of the local cash crop. Today it honors the area’s peanut heritage and includes a full slate of activities. Festival begins at 10:00 a.m. with the Annual Peanut Festival Parade.  Located in downtown Aubrey at the Festival Grounds, 301 S. Main Street.

Lake Cities Celebration

The Lake Cities of Corinth, Hickory Creek, Shady Shores and Lake Dallas unite for a one-of-a-kind, 4th of July blow-out Celebration!  City Park of Lake Dallas will be filled with Independence Day festivities including our hometown parade at 9 AM, contests for cash prizes, great food, and a vendor market along with live entertainment throughout the day.

Children will enjoy a free play area with water slides, bounce houses and games. Back by popular demand, the Lake Cities Idol returns with ten talented artists performing for cash prizes. Justin Cash performs at 4 PM followed by the evening’s headline entertainment, Eleven Hundred Springs at 7 PM with a spectacular fireworks show to follow at 9:15 PM.

Red, White & Lewisville Fireworks

The city’s annual fireworks show, will be held July 4th around Vista Ridge Mall. The show will start at approximately 9:30 pm.  The best viewing opportunities will be on the South side of Vista Ridge Mall and along the 121 Bypass.  For more information please call 972-219-3401.

11th Annual Freedomfest

July 4th, gate opens at 5:30 pm. Event benefits Peace of the Rock Ministries and local and international missions.  Cost is $5.00 per person, kids 3 and under are FREE.  Family Fun including: pedal boats, canoes, fishing (bring your gear), playgrounds, inflatables, mechanical bull, and Old McDonald’s Kiddie Train.

Food and drinks may be purchased at the Chicken Coop Cafe.  No alcohol or pets please.  Firework Show begins at 9:30 pm, bring your lawn chairs and blankets. First time at the ranch is family bluegrass gospel band John Grubb & the Full Quiver performing from 7:30-8:30 pm.

Flower Mound Annual Independence Day Celebration

Come join the Town of Flower Mound in celebrating the annual Independence Day Fireworks Extravaganza, a free family event at Bakersfield Park, 1201 Duncan Lane.

Gates open at 7 pm with concessions and children’s activities including a bounce house, giant slide, obstacle course, and rock wall, and face painting.

The Walton Stout Band will play from 8:00 – 9:30 pm and the fireworks show is scheduled to begin at 9:25 pm. No glass, alcohol, or tobacco products may be brought to the park.

Thursday nights in May and June set the tone in downtown Denton with the presentation of the Denton Main Street Association’s Twilight Tunes concert series.  Join the fun on Thursday evenings on the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square lawn, 110 W. Hickory Street from 6:30 to 8 p.m..  The concert is held on the north end of the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square lawn near the corners of Oak and Elm Streets in May and Oak and Locust in June.  Admission is FREE.

Bring your friends or the family, get a meal-to-go from one of the many downtown eateries, bring a blanket or chairs, and enjoy an evening of great live music as the sun sets over downtown Denton.  The 2011 series offers an eclectic assortment of music for all listeners.  Thursday Twilight Tunes is the perfect way to kick off the weekend a little early and listen to some of the best local bands in the Denton area.  There is even a bouncehouse for the kids.

11th Annual Pulling for Kids Tournament May 5th

Get ready to take your best shot – it’s time for the Pulling for Kids Sporting Clay Tournament, benefiting CASA! Since the first annual shoot in 2001, the Pulling for Kids event has raised nearly $370,000 for child victims of abuse and neglect in Denton County. This year, we are “shooting” for our most successful event yet!

This year’s Pulling for Kids will once again be hosted at the nationally acclaimed Dallas Gun Club in Lewisville. Outback Steakhouse in Denton has graciously signed on to provide a delicious steak dinner for all shooters and volunteers; after the shoot, there will be a high stakes gun raffle with all proceeds going to CASA of Denton County. 24th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration May 7th

This year’s Cinco de Mayo celebration will commemorate the historic battle of Puebla. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a parade and festivities at the Denton Quakertown Park, (formerly known as Civic Center Park) located at 321 E. McKinney. This FREE event celebrates the diversity in the Denton community and features activities for the entire family.

The celebration begins with a parade at 10 a.m. at the corner of Locust and Oakland streets, and ends at the Civic Center parking lot. The numerous vendors at the event will offer a variety of foods, beverages, jewelry, crafts, and many other items.

41st Annual Juneteenth Celebration June 17th and 18th

More than an event, its an exeperience!  Join us on Friday and Saturday at Fred Moore Park for a day filled with fun and entertainment for the whole family!
