Thursday Twilight Tunes set the tone on Thursday nights in Downtown Denton

Thursday nights in May and June set the tone in downtown Denton with the presentation of the Denton Main Street Association’s Twilight Tunes concert series.  Join the fun on Thursday evenings on the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square lawn, 110 W. Hickory Street from 6:30 to 8 p.m..  The concert is held on the north end of the Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square lawn near the corners of Oak and Elm Streets in May and Oak and Locust in June.  Admission is FREE.

Bring your friends or the family, get a meal-to-go from one of the many downtown eateries, bring a blanket or chairs, and enjoy an evening of great live music as the sun sets over downtown Denton.  The 2011 series offers an eclectic assortment of music for all listeners.  Thursday Twilight Tunes is the perfect way to kick off the weekend a little early and listen to some of the best local bands in the Denton area.  There is even a bouncehouse for the kids.

This is the 18th season for this long-standing tradition in historic downtown Denton.  Thursday Twilight Tunes is made possible through the generous sponsorships from the Denton Record-Chronicle, First United Bank, NORTHSTAR BANK, University of North Texas Athletics and Beth Marie’s Old-Fashioned Ice Cream & Soda Fountain, with the support of the Greater Denton Arts Council, The Arts Guild of Denton, the Texas Commission on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.  The dates for the concerts will be May 5, 12, 19, 26 and June 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30.  For a complete list of bands, please visit the website at www.dentonmainstreet.org  or call (940) 349-8529.

11th Annual Pulling for Kids Tournament May 5th

Get ready to take your best shot – it’s time for the Pulling for Kids Sporting Clay Tournament, benefiting CASA! Since the first annual shoot in 2001, the Pulling for Kids event has raised nearly $370,000 for child victims of abuse and neglect in Denton County. This year, we are “shooting” for our most successful event yet!

This year’s Pulling for Kids will once again be hosted at the nationally acclaimed Dallas Gun Club in Lewisville. Outback Steakhouse in Denton has graciously signed on to provide a delicious steak dinner for all shooters and volunteers; after the shoot, there will be a high stakes gun raffle with all proceeds going to CASA of Denton County. 24th Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration May 7th

This year’s Cinco de Mayo celebration will commemorate the historic battle of Puebla. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a parade and festivities at the Denton Quakertown Park, (formerly known as Civic Center Park) located at 321 E. McKinney. This FREE event celebrates the diversity in the Denton community and features activities for the entire family.

The celebration begins with a parade at 10 a.m. at the corner of Locust and Oakland streets, and ends at the Civic Center parking lot. The numerous vendors at the event will offer a variety of foods, beverages, jewelry, crafts, and many other items.

41st Annual Juneteenth Celebration June 17th and 18th

More than an event, its an exeperience!  Join us on Friday and Saturday at Fred Moore Park for a day filled with fun and entertainment for the whole family! Booths, vendors, children’s games, music, live bands, prizes, and much more. This year’s Juneteenth celebration will provide fun, food and entertainment for families across Texas. This year’s attendance is expected to reach 5,000, with people coming from throughout the community and surrounding areas. 2011 Denton Air Show June 18th

Denton Air Show will  offer a mixture of aerobatic displays, vintage warbirds with formation flying and military demonstrations. Proceeds from the Denton Air Show benefit Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home in Denton. Cornerstone Cooperative 40th Anniversary Pancake Supper Fundraiser

On Saturday, March 5, at the First United Methodist Church Gymnasium at 201 S. Locust Street, Denton, the Cornerstone Cooperative Preschool will hold its annual Pancake Supper & Silent Auction from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm. The Cornerstone Cooperative is the only preschool of its kind in Denton County. Parent volunteers do much of the administrative and maintenance work, and even help out with their kids’ classes. This year, the school celebrates its 40th anniversary with appearances at the supper by founding members, and a performance by Denton jazz musician Andy LaViolette. Auction sponsors include the Texas Rangers and Brunswick Bowling. All proceeds go to the school, which in the past has used the money for projects such as building a playground for the kids. Tickets are $4 in advance or $5 at the door.
