To keep the spirit of giving alive, HeadRush the Salon will hold a contest for 10 hair makeovers.

Hairdressers are such fortunate people. Every work day we are greeted by clients that want to come
see us. They choose to come spend their time in our chairs so we can make them look their best.
A great number of these clients become our friends. We talk about school, life, children, marriage,
divorce, you name it we hear it. We often laugh with our clients and have even cried with them.
What rewarding job we have! A recent client visited our salon for the first time. When she left she had
tears in her eyes and proclaimed she felt so beautiful, “like a new person inside and out.” We have the
ability to transform someone’s look as well as lift their spirit. That feeling to a hairdresser is the ultimate
compliment. It didn’t take long for that story to spread across the salon and remind each hairdresser
exactly why we come to work each day. One idea lead to another as we talked about the feeling of
giving someone a transformation and a the seed of giving back was planted. To keep the spirit of
giving alive, HeadRush the Salon will hold a contest for 10 hair makeovers. Anyone can write
to our salon or private message us on facebook and nominate someone who is deserving of a
makover during the month of January. Each of our stylists will choose one nominee and give
them a hair makeover on February 6, 2012 from 6 pm to 9 pm. It will be a night dedicated solely
to giving back and lifting spirits.

Denton, we ask you to nominate someone deserving of a complimentary makeover. Mail us or
facebook private message us a 200 word or less summary of why they deserve the makeover along
with a picture of the nominee. Please include your name, address and phone number and the same
information of the nominee. This contest is open to anyone 18 or over and does not have to be a
client of our salon. The winning names will be posted on our facebook HeadRush the Salon on
February 1, 2012 and each winner will be contacted by their stylist that same day. Thank you Denton,
for making our jobs so much fun and allowing us to keep giving even after the holiday season is over!

A new year always brings new fashion trends and styles, and this year is no different because this spring season has a lot to offer. Explore this sneak peak into trendy spring fashions and get your shopping list ready so you can stock up early.

Spring trends will focus largely on colors and prints with a few innovative styles making their way to stores and the runway. As far as colors go, keep an eye out for tangerines and oranges, pastels and pinks. All shades of orange will be hot this season and will be present in all outlets of style. Pastels are the perfect spring color as they are seen on longer flowy dresses and skirts. Pink will also be a huge color for the season, but it will come with an interesting new style—the short suit. This suit will come in all shades of pink, along with other colors, and will feature different styles of blazers with coordinating shorts. The shorts can be all lengths—from super short and beachy to a longer, more business-like length.

Prints will also storm the runway in a huge way. From bold and bright to futuristic, we will be seeing it all. Colorful camo print will also be an interesting new look as we see the military influences in a bright new way that is perfect for the spring season. For the more daring, metallic fabric will also be an asset to the season’s trends as we see metallic pants, cropped jackets, and so much more.

Perhaps the most flattering style of all this coming season is the peplum look. For those who have not heard, the peplum look comes in a variety of styles and it simply features a flared ruffle that sits at the natural waistline. Not only is the waist defined and “pinched in,” but the ruffle also disguises the hips. This style is perfect for the body conscious who want to look feminine and chic. Peplum shirts can be casual or dressy and can be paired with dress pants, skirts, or even jeans. This extremely versatile and flattering style for the spring should be at the top of your shopping list—so stock up!

But Your Clothes are So Delightful

With cooler days and chilly nights in the near future, coats and jackets are a must this holiday season. This season it’s all about variety when it comes to outerwear. The fashion world has been flooded with all sorts of choices in lengths, textures, fabrics, and styles of different coats and jackets.

From trench coats to cropped and fur lined jackets, there is a stylish outerwear option for all tastes this winter season. Ponchos have returned once again in the form of warm winter coats. These ponchos are often fur-lined or quilted and range from below the waist to knee length. Quilted jackets are a must not only for the function but also for the aesthetic. We are still seeing a huge military influence in outerwear as well as influences from the 1960s and the 1970s. The 1960s bring us the cropped trench coat and a trend in dropped shoulders on jackets.

You should also be prepared to dress your man in the latest fashions in outerwear. The bubble coat, or puffer jacket, has made a comeback this season for men in a wide array of color choices. Other styles for men include the fur-lined, hooded parka, the bomber jacket, military coat, and longer, belted trench coat styles.

Remember, your perfectly stylish outfit will be incomplete this holiday season without the ultimate choices in cold-weather gear. All of these fashionable options to keep you warm this winter season can be purchased at a variety of places: department stores, boutiques, you name it!

Corporate women are in luck this season since the working-girl dress is one of the most popular looks for the upcoming season. This dress should be mid-length with longer, puffy sleeves. The fabric is typically very 70s-inspired with large floral prints or smaller repeating patterns on gauzy material.

Once the weather starts to cool down, these dresses can be paired with military blazers or rust colored coats. Maxi skirts are also popular as a more casual option when paired with a chunky oversized sweater. As far as shoes go, a nice pair of loafers or a simple pair of classic tuxedo flats will do the trick. If you are comfortable in heels for the whole day, a pair of dressy wedges or something with a chunky heel and plenty of buckles will do.

For the less fashion daring, a 70’s-inspired, wide leg pant can definitely add some trendy flare to the office. Dress up these usual boring black pants with a skinny bright colored belt to bring some color to the typical corporate setting.

Every season has its hottest colors, and this year it’s all about jade green, mustard yellow, and rusty orange. Expect to see these colors splashed across everything from handbags to flats. Consider purchasing a few accessories in these hues for an inexpensive way to try the trend.

Some corporate fashion don’ts for this season include leggings as pants, glitter, fur, excessive camouflage print, and pointy patent leather boots. Avoid these items when shopping for your closet staple pieces to achieve success not only in the workplace, but also in the fashion world.

The perfect summer beach look relies on several summer staples including the perfect swimsuit, the best beach bag, and ideal summer accessories. For many, the thought of the perfect swimsuit may seem farfetched and absurd, but this season, have no fear, because there is a swim style for all. From flattering monokinis to retro bandeaus, everyone can look stylish and feel great on the beach this summer. The biggest trends in swimwear seem to be metallics, mixed prints, and bold colors, but the key to having fun in the sun is finding the perfect suit for each body type.

For the ladies with bigger busts, try a halter suit with underwire and possibly a thick band under the bust to provide maximum support. Ruffles, bandeau tops, large prints, and string bikini tops should be avoided. The curvy body type should try a monokini or a tankini in a plain color—remember, bright and bold is in style this season! This body type will benefit from control tops with spandex material and should try to stay away from skirted suits and large patterns or stripes. Pear-shaped bodies are perfect for bandeau tops and bottoms with a slight ruffle. For this body shape, less fabric on bottom may draw attention to the bust area, while full skirts and boy shorts can actually highlight problem areas. Tall and slender ladies should try wearing two pieces that create the illusion of a defined waistline or a monokini with dramatic cutouts in the side and should avoid plain suits with little detail or gathering. Last but not least, the petite body type should experiment with outrageous detail that highlight the bust and butt areas of the suit such as fringe, skirts, cutouts, and allover patterns. Remember to never rule out a style before you try it; when in doubt, try it out!

Beach bags, sunglasses, and sandals are essential accessories to complete this season’s beach look. You cannot go wrong with an oversized beach bag that coordinates with your swimsuit and cover-up combination. These bags come in a large variety of styles, colors, and prints and should be filled with some big, retro sunglasses, sunscreen, and a floppy hat. Before flaunting your new summer fashion, do not forget to throw on a pair of stylish metallic sandals, platform summer wedges, or bohemian fringe sandals.

Trends in men’s fashion have always been slow to change and lacking in individuality. This season, any man can liven up the usual wardrobe with a few simple additions and changes that are easily achieved. Men (and the women that shop for them), get ready to follow these easy steps to personalize your closet and brighten up the norm.

The first step for a better wardrobe involves the perfect shoe and really highlights the idea of “stepping into prep.” The Sperry lies somewhere between a tennis shoe and a dress shoe and is the single most important element to a trendier outfit. This shoe can either dress up a beach casual look or dress down a nicer khaki and blazer combination and can be found at a wide assortment of shoe stores or on their website.

Colorful khakis are one of the biggest trends for spring and a must-have for any guy looking to take his closet to the next level. Colors range from vibrant reds, pinks, and greens to a subtler navy or shade of gray. These khakis can be found at a variety of stores including Tommy Hilfiger and Gap and can be paired with an unlined blazer. Unlined blazers are growing in popularity as the preppy look takes over and warmer weather sets in. These blazers also come in a variety of colors but should be kept to a more neutral look with a basic undershirt if paired with some bright khaki pants.

Guys looking to go a little more casual should try sporting the classic short-sleeved plaid button down with a pair of flat front shorts. These short-sleeved basics generally have a slim fit and should never be worn unbuttoned. Find these casual basics at JCrew, Ralph Lauren, or any department store. Just with these easy new clothing pieces, any man can be transformed into a fashion-conscious individual.

As the spring season sets in, conservatism takes over in the form of longer skirts and hemlines. Length of skirts and dresses will take a plunge well below the knees and even brush the floor in some cases. The time-old tale of falling economies and falling hemlines is well supported by one of this spring’s most influential trends. Since hemlines, like the economy, are constantly changing and seem to follow the same pattern as the business cycle, we will see all ages showing significantly less leg this spring.

The maxi dress will make a return from last spring and summer and will also reappear in the form of maxi skirts. Longer skirts and dresses tie in with the boho-chic fashion movement and can be paired with a fitted top or accessorized with a chunky belt. Maxi dresses will take on new styles with 70’s-esque front slits and longer lacy looks. Although this style is one of fashion’s top looks for spring, it cannot be achieved by just anyone. Long and lean figures tend to pull off the floor length style better while petite and plus size should stick to a less dramatic just below the knee length.

Adopted by many of this year’s big designers, the below-the-knee look has been seen all over the runway and is making its way into everyday wear. Several of the biggest collections feature asymmetrical hemlines, very powerful angles, and some straight-across hems. We will see fabrics ranging from cotton to chiffon along with elegant sheers and laces. From classy knee-length all the way down to flowing floor-length, there is a conservative style for everyone this season.

While the economic situation of today resembles that of the 1940s, so do the fashion trends. With the classic look of elegance rejuvenated to fit today’s modern trends, there will be basics, neutrals, and pearls –and a lot of them. Alfred Hitchcock continually shows his influence on fashion from his sexy and suspenseful films of the 1940s. Through his starring roles, he developed fashion icons that became prominent in leading ladies and abundant in constrained tweed suits complete with gloves, structured handbags, and other necessities.

This winter season, the elegance and starkness of the 1940s is seen in immense profusion within the fashion scene. Trends reign across all aspects of fashion but seem to focus on the “classic” look established in the ‘40s and references to Chanel’s always-fashionable Little Black Dress. Of course, the 1940s look would not be near as accepted and sported today if it was not redesigned and modernized with the use of jewels, metallics, and tailored suits that show off the desirable hourglass figure.

The colors this season will be of a neutral palette including mostly camel tones and blacks and grays that add a touch of masculinity to timeless trends. The saying “back to basics” seems to be a popular one this winter with the overwhelming use of neutral tones and basic pieces of clothing accessorized to appear more luxurious and high fashion. This focus on accessories is evident through the presence of structured handbags, gloves of all types, pearls, and neutral pumps.

To achieve the 1940s of today look of elegance and affluence try pairing a basic dress or plain tailored suit with some classic-style accessories. For the fashion-conscious, the simple pearl necklace or pair of neutral pumps will complete the look. The more fashion-daring shopper should try sporting a wide brim hat or driving gloves to make any outfit classic-chic.

This season fur isn’t just a luxury—it’s a lifestyle. From classic fur coats to boots, hats, dresses, purses, and all things furry, this trend has taken the runways and retail stores by storm. Whether it’s real or faux fur, this trend is one of the more noticeable and influential of the season. With the dozens of different style combinations that this trend achieves, fur is a must-have look this fall that can be worn by anyone. Traditionally, fur was seen as one of the more luxurious fashion choices, but today it has made its way into all different product markets and has become an affordable requirement for not only the fashion-forward consumer, but also the everyday shopper.

“Boots with the fur” takes on a whole new meaning this fall as we see such a vast assortment in fur boots. Fur covers the inside, outside, tops, and laces of this stylish trend in footwear. There are so many combinations in these shoes—from ankle to thigh-high and high-heeled to flat—that there is something that will look fabulous on everyone. Perhaps the most controversial of these fashionable shoes is the Mukluk, a boot covered almost entirely by fur. These boots were conventionally made from sealskin but have shifted to a more environmentally friendly version of the original. Although Mukluks can be spotted on the runways of Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, and many more, this does not mean that everyone can pull them off with such ease.

Here are a few tips and tricks to looking fabulous in fur this season: Keep it simple. One eye-catching piece of fur is generally enough to get the desired look across but not grab too much attention while doing so. Pair a piece of fur clothing or fur accessories with other trendy fabrics this season such as leather, wool, tweed, or a simple cotton fabric. If you are daring enough to test out the Mukluk boots, team them up with a simple skirt, tights, leggings, or a few layers of flowing fabrics for a more bohemian-chic look. Even if we don’t see snow this season, we will undoubtedly see a substantial amount of fur.

America’s love affair with denim is totally undeniable. Last year skinny jeans topped the fashion boards and this fall the Jegging will explode in popularity. They have been peeking out for a while now and the rage just grows and grows. Even thought late last fall New York magazine called jeggings a “don’t,” retailers and fashion watchers disagreed and the trend was born. It was slow at first but this season the reinvention of the humble jean has hit the scene with fashion mavens. Industry buyers and fashion executives tout them as an absolute perfect transition from summer into the fall fashion scene.

Jeggings, a cross between jeans and leggings, started as a tight (very tight) fitting spandexed jean, a jean with enough spandex to give a more painted on look.
